Choosing a Web Service based on user requirements

Posted by James Kaushik - 28/04/09 at 04:04 am

With the current crop of Web service providers, it is but a reality that there will be web services that are offered by multiple providers having the same functions. In such a case, the users should have the ability to categorize the services discovered based on some criteria like Cost, throughput, user feedback etc.
Therefore we in particular, want the users to specify a contextual and specific semantic correspondence between multiple providers to remove semantic similairaties between them. Then we use correspondences to select a service based on the user’s requirements, both functional and non functional which are then ordered from most appropriate to least appropriate.
Thus, this service ranking procedure comprises two important steps:
• Specifying a relationship between the concepts of the user needs and the web service providers SLA (Service level agreements), which are used to describe the services offered.
• Specifying a basis for service choosing which uses the relationships to select some candidate web service providers against a user request rank/order them based on the user-specified requirement criterion.
