The best way to increase your website traffic is through search engine optimization (SEO). Although it may take you months before you can see results from SEO, it is definitely worth the wait. Search engines like Google and Yahoo are getting millions of visitors every day and there are thousands of searches conducted every second. No matter which industry you are in, I believe your prospects are definitely using search engines to look for your products or services. Therefore, a good online marketing plan must definitely include SEO.
Basically, a SEO project is broken down into 2 parts: Onsite optimization and offsite optimization. During onsite optimization, you only work on the website. Some of the tasks during onsite optimization are: copywriting, tagging every page with important keywords or key phrases, making sure the back-end codes are clean, adding xml sitemaps or robot.txt, etc. After onsite optimization, you will move on to offsite optimization where you focus on building links to your site to increase its link popularity. Link popularity is one of the most important processes of SEO and you must do it consistently in order to achieve success in SEO.

Google SEO is a common phrase around the web, SEO stands for search engine optimisation and when it comes to optimising a website there is only one search engine you need to consider and that is Google. This is because it has a 80-85% search share and is the only real search engine worth targeting.
Many people know little bits of SEO but few really know how to run through a full campaign maximising every ranking opportunity. You see SEO is not about providing one big hit, it is consistently and continually building your sites relevance and authority. It takes time to rank for keywords on Google but following these guidelines will set you on the correct tracks.
The first thing you need to think about is keyword research, use the different tools available online to help you narrow down the most relevant keywords to your content. You need to be looking at search traffic and keyword competition, looking for a good mixture of competitive terms and more niche terms. The Google keyword tool is a great place to discover new keywords and quickly assess there competition.
You will then need to analyse the competition also targeting that keyword, what are they doing well, how many links do they have, what areas of their page are optimised and where can I beat them? This will also give you the ideal opportunity to discover new keywords from your competitors content and meta data.

A common question that many search engine optimisation specialists receive is what happened to my rankings, with the major rank being on Google. There are many different reasons why a site may lose rankings, some are obvious and involve unethical techniques, others are less obvious and can leave some webmasters puzzled.
In this article I really wanted to focus on some of the less obvious reasons you could be seeing a drop in your rankings, no matter what the reason is it is always going to be a guess as Google tend to keep their negative ranking factors close to their chest to prevent manipulation of their search results.
Over anchor optimisation is a common reason for losing rankings. Every good SEO knows that in order to rank high on Google you need to make your links as relevant as possible, this includes making good use of your anchor text. However if you over do it and create thousands of identical anchor links you are risking a penalty, especially if the anchor does not correspond with your website name.

The search engines are constantly making adjustments to their algorithms, so ranking will change slightly almost every time they do it. Then there are major updates that happen less frequently that can dramatically change your ranking, especially if you don’t adapt. Many law firms are starting to get serious about their online business and are heavily considering joining forces with an SEO firm to initiate a campaign. The first thing that needs to be understood is that SEO is not a commodity, especially if you are counting on online revenue generation. Every website must get some volume of traffic to drive new business. The only way to get traffic is to rank well in the search engines. Law firms need SEO if they want to gain online business.
For any long-term online strategy, natural or organic search has a better cost than pay-per-click, although it takes more time to see the results. More people use natural search results than paid search, but even a good campaign can take three to six months for any significant improvements to organic ranking. It has been done in less time, especially in a less competitive market, but isn’t common. High rankings come from carefully researched and highly competitive keywords that are relevant to your law firm.

There was also a very large perception gap in the pricing expectations of SEO services. 46 percent of respondents had ‘no idea’ how much SEO costs, where 21 percent expected it to either free (9 percent) or less than $1,000 (12 percent). Others proposed a performance fee structure based on bottom line generated through SEO. The takeaway here is that no one really understood the pricing expectations for SEO services. For SEO to be considered a legitimate and mature professional field, the industry must consider delivering its services as close to a standard as it can. This is to ensure that SEO services will have increasingly added value to the public, and close the perception gap that exists.
The study of discussion was small and statistically insignificant, but presented some perspective for those SEO experts whose oxygen is written in code. It is obvious that a standard definition of SEO needs to be implemented and marketed heavily that would help the general public understand what not only to expect in a SEO campaign, but what will fit their budget as well. SEO standards would help set a minimum standard SEO delivery, which increase the client value perception. Closing the perception gap is a large and looming step in SEO’s future, and those who have legitimate, white hat SEO and SEM firms will be the ones that make the leap and keep on striding.

Search engine optimization is a newly emerging industry that is still growing everyday. Its close ties to the Internet and Google allows the service to ride the coat-tails of search into an ever-changing upward spiral of relevance and necessity. More and more businesses that have at least realized SEO’s importance in being found online have come to embrace the ‘nerd-meets-geek’ world of online marketing. However, in a recent closed study on SEO, the perception gap between what SEO actually is and what people think happens in a campaign is wider than expected, and hoped for by SEO specialists.
In this very basic survey, 33 respondents were questioned to provide a snapshot of the general public’s understanding of search engine optimization. The participants were tertiary qualified professionals who were asked not to conduct any research before the survey. Quite a few people (30 percent) considered SEO to be performed by the search engines themselves, such as algorithm changes and delivering improve performance and more relevant results. The perception gap here is between the cause and the effect. Google’s change in the algorithm is causing changes in SEO that will effect the rankings of a site. On a lighter note, 42 percent of respondents understood the basic idea of SEO, citing that it involves changes to a website to improve its rankings in the SERPs.

If you are a little less assertive, you can serve up your call to action as a suggestion. What most marketing experts will tell you, however, is that your customers need to act NOW!
